About Burke Virginia:

Burke in Fairfax County was ranked #31 in the Money magazine's 2008 "Best Places to Live" in the country. Plentiful jobs, excellent schools and a wide range of housing opportunities are among the sought-after attributes of communities appearing on the annual list. The Best Places list illustrates the link between a desirable quality of life and a dynamic business community and economy, said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA).

"Quality of life is one of the most important factors in what draws businesses to a community, and Fairfax County has made a tremendous investment in maintaining one of the highest standards of living in the world," Gordon said. "Businesses in Fairfax County, in turn, provide high-salary jobs and boost the commercial tax base that the Board of Supervisors uses to fund award-winning programs that bolster the quality of life."

Time magazine called Fairfax County, just outside Washington, D.C., "one of the great economic success stories of our time." The county is home to seven Fortune 500 companies, more than 5,400 technology companies, more than 360 foreign-owned firms, and some of the largest minority-owned companies in the nation.

Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services such as a top-ranked public school system and other public services that improve the quality of life. Fairfax County offers a well-educated workforce, diverse real estate opportunities, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, and a business community based on technology and professional services.
